English Master Site vs Language Copy vs Live Copy
The Grundfos website works in 3 levels
- English Master site
- Language Copies
- Live Copies
The English Master Site is cloned to a local Language Copy which is rollout to the Live Copy of the language
English Master Site
The English Master Site serves two roles
- As Language Copy for most of the others sites in english
- As clone master for all the local Language Copies (ex. German etc.)
Language Copies
This is the local Language Copy where the global content is translated from english to the local language and there by becomes the local Language Master.
Its also where the local langauge content is created, for example a local German campaign is created here and not on the English Master Site.
A Langauge Copy can have multiple Live Copies related to it.
For example the German Language Copy, has the German, Austrian and Swiss Live Copies related to it, meaning that Austria and Switzerland do not have their own Language Copy, and must await Germany translation before the content can be rolled out to their Live Copies.
Live Copies
The Live Copy is actually the live site, which is visible on the world wide web
Important: All changes must be made on the Langauge Copy, and NOT on the Live Copy
Create & translate vs Rollout
- Create and translate (Cloning) is done from the English Master Site to the Language Copy
- Rollout is done from a Language Copy to the Live Copy of a language
Create & translate (Cloning)
When the global content is approved on the English Master Site, its needs to be cloned to the local Language Copies for translation, this step is called Create & translate in AEM.
If the English Master Site content is updated at a later point, it is possible to update the cloned content on the local Language Copy with the new changes.
Note: This can in some cases conflict with the translations that has already been done.
Rollout
When content is rolled out from the Language Copy to the Live Copy, the content is locked for editing on the Live Copy. Instead, there is created an inheritance between the two, so future updates can be synced out from Language Copy to Live Copy.
In some cases the inheritance between the Langauge Copy and the Live Copy has been cancelled, and in those cases future updates will either not get pushed out or the content will appere multiple times on the Live Copy.
Important: All changes must be made on the Langauge Copy, and NOT on the Live Copy
